In cattle production, I can say that nothing is useless. We literally make use of everything. But our cattle rearers have given us the mindset that you only get meat (beef) and milk from cattle production. Cattle by products are the products we get from cattles, some are obvious while others aren’t. We’ll be looking at them all.

By products from cattle are used in manufacturing industries, our houses, etc. Here are some ways we touch cattles daily.

Products from fats/fatty acids & protein meals.

These products have made and is making life easy for individuals. The hair and skin of cattle are used in making;

  • Upholsteries
  • Textiles

Pharmaceutical products

From the Pancreas

It is an ingredient in insuline for treating diabetes and high blood sugar.

Chymotrypsin promoteshealing of burns and wounds.

Pancreatin tablets aids in the digestion of food.

Glucagon treats hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.

From the Liver

Heparin which is an anti-coagulant.

Liver extract treats anemia.

Vit. B-12 prevent B-complex deficiencies.

From the bone, horn and hooves

Bone marrow which treats blood disorders.

Soft cartilage as a plastic surgery component.

Bone meal which supplies calcium and phosphorus.

From the Pituitary gland

Blood meal which contains numerous nutrients like iron treats anemia

Thrombin – a coagulant which helps blood clot
